Stargate SG1

One year after its last use, the door with stars opens again, and causes an extraterrestrial attack. Worry, the army again joins together the scientist Daniel Jackson and colonel O' Neill. The StarGate program is directed by the Hammond General who composes ten teams of investigations, with the different missions. Helped of a alien and a young captain, the first two men who opened the door make parties of the first team, SG1... Together, they will fight against the capacity and the threat which represent Goa' ulds and also will discover of other universes.

Drawn from the first world success of Roland Emmerich, the series is in fact the prolongation of film. The stories told in the series are the continuation of the events which have occurred in the full-length film. If the actors changed, one finds the two heroes of the door of stars. O' Neill and Jackson thus cross again the door to discover new worlds. But television obliges, the special effects and the stories make in humility. However the writing of Stargate SG1 is resolutely modern. Like the X-files or Buffy Against the Vampires , the series proposes a mythology, a recurring topic: namely the war against Goa' ulds.

Between the discovery of new planets, new civilizations, extraterrestrial the more or less quarrelsome one, the members of SG1 are especially in the search of information on very cruel Goa' ulds, species of alien parasite which wants to conquer the universe. As good American, teams SG are there to protect freedom and to supervise what it occurs in the other galaxies. But the series skilfully scrambles this pretentious message by often solid stories and intrigues tied up rather well. Moreover characters do not miss charms. O' Neill is slackened an enough colonel, Carter imposes her femininity (what is not an evil in this kind of warlike series), Daniel Jackson plays the intelligent fly of the stage coach and to finish Teal' C is a high character colors in spite of his stoicism.

Another rather rare quality: in the course of the years, the series developed the characters related to project SG and their consistency gave. Also one at ease feels when one unloads in the underground base of the Air Force. Less spectacular than film, the series has, with time, known to dissociate itself thanks to a writing much finer than the message Manichean of the history. This door with stars offers then a spectacle much more subtle to us than it does not appear to with it.

One of qualities of the series is the solidity and the coherence of the writing. In the course of the years, Stargate SG1 builds a true small universe, with its obliged passages, its rules and its easy ways.

Also it is wise to explain certain things. Initially, what wants to say SG1 (since officially, it is what identifies the series of film)? SG is a team which works on the Stargate operation and of course it is not only. Indeed if the witness follows the first team, there is the different one and one refers there from time to time.

Each team has a specific role. For example, SG3 and SG5 are military commandos; SG7 and SG8, of the scientific and medical teams while SG9 and SG11 would have diplomatic virtues rather. The multiplication of the teams give broadth and credibility (especially on the level of the tensions between the groups).

A credibility to which clings the authors since they justify the thing more aggravating in this kind of productions: practice of English (or Slovene!) by other civilizations met. Thus if our neighbors to mitigate extraterrestrial usually speak our language it is that the adventure is often perceived by Daniel Jackson, Egyptologist but also linguist. And as many aliens could visit and take as a starting point our planet while passing the door with stars, the communication is done easily. Colonel Jonathan O' Neill

Shocked by the death of his son, colonel O' Neill owes his safety with discovered door with stars. From now on head of mission, He directs his team with perspicacity and a great courage. He seeks to find the young person Skaara, victim of the goa' ulds. He maintains with the Carter captain the increasingly close relations

Daniel Jackson

Very knowing Egyptologist, Daniel Jackson is the specialist in the voyages through the door with stars. It is him which discovers the very significant number of doors through the galaxies. He will open a certain number of it, in the search of his wife, Sha' Re, met on first visited planet, Abydos.

Captain Samantha Carter

Specialist in astrophysics, the Samantha blonde obviously is placed best to accompany the members by SG1. Very qualified and energetic, she does not leave O' Neill indiffèrent.

Teal' C

Last permanent member of SG1, Teal' C is more surprising. Thanks to a larva Goa' uld, Teal' C is equipped with capacities astonishing but used on behalf of malfaisant Apophis. Teal' C was turned over against this last and in spite of the doubts of the army, could join project SG1.

Dr. Janet Frasier Physician and doctor on the project, her authority and her councils hardly like O' Neill which adores charmed looks with her.

Hammond General

At a few months of the retirement, the Hammond General sees himself entrusting the responsibility for the door to stars. But the discovery of other doors make his station rather uncomfortable and heavy of responsibilities. Paternalist, always concerned, he makes very to protect teams SG from the military hierarchy, and its doubts...
